  • Notes

PSUB primarily houses the legacy collection of Peter A. Smith who lived and worked in and around the Okavango Delta for more than 30 years. In 2022 we have returned to preparing specimen sheets for digital scanning. We are prioritizing the core, legacy, collection. During 2021 we focused on preparing specimen sheets of those species used as Traditional Medicinal Plants in Botswana and particularly those used for the treatment of respiratory symptoms as seen in Covid19 infection. These herbarium sheets have been digital scanned and we will enter data from the image into our database (BRAHMS). Visitors with specialist botanical knowledge would be welcome to assist with determination of specimens from various families. Expertise in Poaceae or Cyperaceae would be of particular benefit to us.
