    Update from William Cinea, Les Cayes Botanical Garden, Dec 2023: "T he herbarium in Port-au-Prince suffered a fire that destroyed the specimens collected from 1930 to 2020. Unfortunately, only the specimens collected by Ekman remain, and their condition is deteriorating. We last assessed the Ekman specimens in 2020, There is no recent updated assessment that was done to determine their current state and potential conservation measures." Updated Jan 2009. First report on status of the herbarium after the earthquake: At least the plant collection appears salvageable, if not the herbarium building itself, once the situation in Port au Prince has stabilized. The director, Prof. Robers Pierre Tescar, survived the eathquake. Refer to the herbarium website for future updates..
