Description:

Small tree, 3 m tall; bark smooth, gray, with vertical patterns (see photo). Twigs reddish-brown, leaf bud scales with brown at tips, lenticels white, stipules oblong, 6 x 3 mm; secondary veins with white tufts of trichomes in axils with midrib,. Catkins pendent, bracts green, somewhat tinged with red, with scattered simple trichomes, these often on apex of anthers. The anthers had not yet dehisced and there was no sign of female flowers. Male flowers with aboiut 15 stamens. Three days later all male catkins spent and flowers of females catkins with red stigmas. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
Habitat:

Deciduous forest.
Feature Notes:

Tree visited again on 6 May 2015 and female catkins were in flower and the leaves flushed but still not at adult slze
