Description:

Tree growing at edge of open wet savanna, to ca. 6 m tall, leaves shiny green above, golden-pubescent below, twigs and leaf rachis also golden-pubescent, twigs often hollow near apices (especially in seedlings), with longitudinal slits that presumably allow ants to enter, small black ants observed interacting with other small insects (aphids?), dehisced fruits remaining on tree bearing all red and/or bi-colored red and black to nearly totally black seeds, slightly pendulous by funicles below fruits.
Habitat:

Open savanna with inundated areas and shrubby to low-forest campinarana.
