Description:

Rather large trees; trunk 3 feet thick, round, 50 feet high; wood moderately tough and tasteless; bark rather thick, gray except the brownish surface of the longitudinal creases, dull reddish-brown beneath the epidermis; branches mainly at the top, freely and crookedly rebranched; twigs suberect, that portion beneath the foliage thickened and obscurely nodulose; leaves ascending, nearly flat, subcoriaceous, sublucid above, the terminal young ones tinged with red and their sides curvingly folder upon the upper side; spikes pendant; rachis pedicels and calyx yellowish-green; filaments whitish; anthers pale yellow; petals creamy white; ovary hairs deep brown. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
