Description:

Small tree or shrub, 5 m. tall, 15 cm. in diam.; crown rounded, wide-spreading, open; wood soft (but harder than that of no. 34406 S. vanheurckii Muell.-Arg.). Stem with narrow, spreading spines; no plant here seen with bristles. Flowers odorless; calyx strongly ribbed in bud; corolla rich purple-violet, only one open per inflorescence and seem not to change color with age. Fruit pale greenish-tan, the larger ones firm within, quickly turning blood-red when cut. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
Habitat:

Tall tropical evergreen forest, flat.
