Brazil. Maranhão. Lorêto Mun. "Ilha de Balsas" region, between the Rios Balsas and Parnaíba. About 15 km south of Lorêto. Top of south edge of the plateau, "Serra do Penitente". On trail from Fazenda Trabalhosa to Lorêto. Alt. 400 m. (1312 ft.)

Description:

Shrub 2 m tall, in fruit. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.

Habitat:

Low-tree "chapada" with semi-continuous shade & marks of previous burnings. Soil stony, & with outcropping rocks. [See label for further habitat description.].
