Brazil. Maranhão. Loreto Mun. "Ilha de Balsas" region between the Balsas & Parnaíba Rivers. 26 km south of Loreto. "Varjão do Mariana" (or "Varjão do Gonçal-Alves"), just south of Riacho do Mariana. Alt. 200 m. (656 ft.)

Description:

herb. Herb with bristly stem.

Habitat:

With scattered trees (almost all Anadenanthera sp.) to 16m tall, shrubs 4-5m tall of Adenanthera and Bauhinia, shrubs 3-4m tall of Mimosa & Combretum. Virgin stand. Clayey soil becomes soaking for several days after a rain.
