Description - Tree or shrub with densely strigulose but glabrescent branchlets; stipules caducous, triangular, 0.7-0.9 mm long, 0.3 mm wide, glabrous; leaves unifoliolate, petioles 3.5-9 mm long, minutely strigulose, very shortly stipellate apically, the petiolules 1.5-4 mm long, minutely strigulose but glabrescent, the blades glabrous, 7-12.5 cm long, 2.5-6 cm wide, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, the base acute to subobtuse, the apex obtuse, sometimes rounded-obtuse, the costa impressed and the primary veins salient above, both primaries and costa salient beneath; inflorescences axillary, the axes 1.5-6.5 cm long, densely strigulose minutely, the bracts persistent, arcuate-linear, 0.8-1.5 mm long, densely strigulose minutely, the bracteoles persistent, 0.5-1 mm long, narrowly triangular, densely strigulose minutely on the outer surface, glabrous within; pedicels 12-20 mm long, densely strigulose minutely; buds globose, 7-8 mm diameter; calyx segments 4, densely strigulose externally, glabrous within; petal densely strigose externally, glabrous within, the claw ca 3 mm long, the blade oblate, the base strongly cordate, 10-13 mm long, 12-19 mm wide; larger stamens 2, glabrous, the filaments ca 13 mm long, the anthers ca 1.5 mm long and 1 mm wide, oval, the smaller stamens glabrous, the filaments 6.5-10 mm long; gynoecium glabrous, the stigma punctiform, the style 1-1.5 mm long, the ovary elliptic, ca 5 mm long and 2-2.5 mm wide, the gynophore 6-9.5 mm long; fruit not seen.

Discussion:

This is perhaps most nearly related to S. conferta and S. stipellata; the mucronate anthers of the former, along with other correlated characteristics, permit immediate separation of the two taxa. Swartzia stipellata has prominent stipels and differently shaped leaflets.
