Description - Tree or shrub 3-12 m tall, the trunk 12 cm or more diameter, the bark blackish, the branchlets more or less strigulose, often glabrescent; stipules usually persistent, triangular to linear-lanceolate, minutely strigulose externally but often glabrescent, glabrous on the inner surface; petioles exalate but stipellate apically, (1-)7-15(-22) mm long, glabrous to densely strigulose; rachis when present exalate, (6-) 15-25(-45) mm long, glabrous or minutely strigulose; leaves unifoliolate or the leaflets 1- or rarely 2-jugate, the petiolules 1-4 mm long, minutely strigulose or glabrous, the blades of the lateral leaflets (3-)5-8 cm long, (1.5-)2.5-4 cm wide, the terminal leaflets larger, 6.5-13.5 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, all the blades oval to elliptic, the apex bluntly acute to acuminate, sometimes shortly mucronulate, glabrous, or softly strigose beneath and tomentellous on the costa above, the venation more or less prominent, the costa impressed to salient, the primary veins plane to salient; inflorescences axillary, the axis densely to sparingly pubescent, 20-83 mm long, the bracts deciduous, ca 1.5 mm long, the bracteoles persistent to deciduous, linear-lanceolate, minutely strigulose externally, glabrous within; pedicels minutely strigulose or glabrous; buds globose, 7-9 mm diameter, minutely strigulose or glabrous; calyx segments 4, glabrous on the inner surface, minutely strigulose or glabrous externally, persistent at least in part with the fruits; petal white, the claw 4.5-5 mm long, the blade rounded to broadly ovate, 13-15 mm long, 12-18 mm wide, glabrous or sparingly strigulose externally; larger stamens 2-4, glabrous, the filaments, 12-18 mm long, the anthers 2.5-3.5 mm long, oval to oblong, the smaller stamens with filaments 5-10 mm long, the anthers rounded, 1-1.5 mm long, 0.8-1 mm wide; gynoecium glabrous, the stigma punctiform, the style 1.5-2.5 mm long, the ovary 6.5-8.5 mm long, 2-5 mm wide, arcuate-elliptic to oval, laterally compressed strongly, the gynophore 5-6.5(-16) mm long; fruit 15-34 mm long, 10-18 mm wide, ovaloid, bright orange or red, the stylar remnant persistent, the carpophore 10-17 mm long, the seeds 1 per fruit, 23-30 mm long, 10-15 mm wide, reniform-ellipsoid, the surface smooth and shining, the aril white.
