Discussion:
The relationship of this species to S. polyphylla is obvious, the most conspicuous difference being the different aspect of the lower surface of the leaflets in S. schomburgkii. The buff-colored lower surface, like that of S. duckei, S. gigantea, and S. jenmanii, is caused by the presence of a dense covering of microscopic peltate hairs. Var. guayanensis is distinguished from the other two varieties by its densely pubescent gynoecium and its depressed-globose buds; var. rigida is distinguished from the typical variety by its rigid-coriaceous leaves and larger verruculous buds, but the two are similar in the form of the buds and in the lack of gynoecial pubescence.
