Discussion:

Both Huber and Ducke related their new species to the proper complex. It was unfortunate that Ducke did not compare his type with the Huber material at the Museo Goeldi, for there are no significant differences to separate them.

Swartzia obscura differs from the nearly related species, S. cardiosperma, by the shape of the leaflets which have the primary venation impressed on the upper surface, and the lower surface usually glaucous and somewhat strigose or pilose.
