Description:
Árbol de copa extendida y hojas caducas de 50 pies de altura y 2 pies de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por tener follaje plumoso y flores grandes rojas o anaranjadas en masas. Las vainas negruzcas grandes que produce han servido como combustible. Los viveros del Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales propagan esta especie para fines de ornato y reforestación. Ha sido sembrada extensamente en carreteras, parques y jardines de todo Puerto Rico y la Isla de Mona. Procedente de Madagascar el flamboyán está distribuido en las Antillas, regiones tropicales y subtropicales del Mundo. Tree of extended canopy and caduceus leaves of fifty feet of height and two feet of diameter in the trunk. It is distinguished to have a plummed foliage and red or orange large flowers in masses. The blackish and great pods have served like fuel. The breeding grounds of Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources propagate this species for ornamental purposes and reforestation. It has been planted extensively along highways, parks, and gardens of all Puerto Rico and the Island of Mona. Coming from Madagascar, "flamboyán" is distributed in the Antilles and in the Tropical and Subtropical regions of the World.
