Genus Description - Trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, entire to serrate; blades glandular punctate or lineate; petioles present; stipules minute, deciduous. Flowers bisexual, sessile or pedunculate, in axillary fascicles; bracts small, persistent; calyx of 5-9 sepals, connate at base; corolla wanting; staminodes internal to or between the stamens; stamens 6-24, the filaments distinct, the anthers opening by longitudinal slits; ovary unilocular, with 3 multiovular wall placentae, the style simple or 3-branched at apex, the stigma capitate. Fruit a fleshy or dry, usually 3-valved capsule; seeds few to numerous, covered with a fleshy coat.
