Description:
Description - Trees reaching about 9 meters in height, with pinnate leaves 20 to 30 cm. long, and small white flowers in axillary clusters. The fruits are flattened pods up to 16 cm. long. They contain several large seeds surrounded by white, translucent, jellylike pulp of a sweet, perfumed taste, much liked by Ecuadorians of all classes.

Discussion:
The genus is a difficult one, some of the Ecuadorian species probably being as yet undescribed.
