Description:
Genus Description - The largest genus of Leguminosae in Guiana, Inga has long been in need of critical study. Ecotypic variation and ontogenetic changes, as well as inadequate distributional data, have contributed to much nomenclatural confusion. Further to its restriction to the neotropics and especial prevalence in such botanically less known areas as Guiana, Amazonia, and the Planalto do Brasil, is the arboreous habit of nearly all species, which factors militate against the ready application of experimental methods of investigation.

Discussion:
In the following enumeration of first reports and miscellaneous data, determinations have been made typologically, mainly through use of types and cited materials deposited at NY and US. No critical evaluation of the taxa is attempted here. The species are given alphabetically
