Description:

Species Description - Massive tree at maturity. Leaves glabrous; petiole with an elliptic to circular gland; ancillary glands usually present between distal 1-2 pairs pinnae; pinnae 8-12 pairs; leaflets 15-25 pairs, asymmetric-oblong, 8-14 mm, with a displaced midvein and evident secondary venation. Heads ca 1-1.5 cm diam, white, disposed in short, terminal, fasciculate racemes. Legume curved through 200-400°, the circle 8-10 cm diam, valves ca 4 cm wide, glossy brown.

Discussion:

CN n = 13 (Tixier, 1965). I have seen this tree a few times in Florida but know little about its occurrence in the United States beyond treatment by Barrett (1956).
