Description - Small tree. Leafy twigs 3-6 mm thick, brown tomentose. Leaves lanceolate, 18-42 cm long, 5.5-12 cm broad, coriaceous, acuminate, obtuse to cordate at the base, glabrous above, except for short, brown, appressed hairs on the costa, otherwise minutely puberulous, glabrescent beneath; the costa prominent, the other veins slightly prominent to impressed above, prominent beneath, 24-27 pairs of secondary veins, tertiary veins partly parallel; petioles 4-10 mm long; stipules ca 15 mm long, yellowish sericeous, brownish tomentose at the lower end. Pistillate inflorescences subsessile to pedunculate; peduncle 2-4 mm long; involucre with ca 20-40, reniform to deltoid, obtuse, appressed-puberulous to shortly sericeous bracts in 5-8 series; flowers 12-25; perianth 4 or more? mm high, 4-8-lobed to 4-8-parted, brown velutinous, perianth segments scale-like, glabrous inside; style 10-12 mm long; stigmas vittiform, 9-13 mm long; pseudobracts peripherally in 1-3 series, spine-like, 4-5 mm long, brown tomentellous to velutinous. Infructescences at least 2-3.5 cm in diameter; perianth 7-8 mm high; pseudobracts spine-like, 6-7 mm long, often curved. Mature infructescences in December.
