Species Description - Annual herb, with elongate stems. Leaves scattered along stem, sessile, with parallel, equal veins, 10-18 X 2-3 mm. Inflorescences becoming "spiny" as fruits develop. Female flowers 3 mm long, the male flowers smaller. Seeds with distinct, longitudinal ridges. Fl (Jan); aquatic, in moist areas next to streams, or in weedy areas.
