Description:
Species Description - Tall, single-stemmed, canopy plants, the trunk solitary, to 25 m X 15-25 cm, with conical mass of red roots at base, the internodes barely visible. Leaves 13-16, first erect, then spreading, with drooping leaflets; sheath 1-1.5 m long, the crownshaft cylindrical, glaucous-green; petiole 30-50 cm long, curved, grayish green, convex below, concave above; rachis 2-3.5 m long; pinnae in 60-90 pairs, glaucous above, straight, linear, pendulous, 35-120 X 2-3 cm. Inflorescences with peduncle 15-20 cm long, grayish-green, glabrous; prophyll ±70 cm long, the peduncular bract about 1 m long, both brown, membranous, early deciduous; rachis 40-50 cm long, whitish-lepidote, bearing 80-130, white-tomentose rachillae 50-70 cm long. Fruits globose, glabrous, smooth, 10- 15 mm diam., purplish black at maturity; endosperm homogeneous.
