Genus Description - Aromatic herbs or subshrubs. Leaves opposite, entire-crenate or serrate. Flowers bisexual, in verticils at the nodes of terminal racemes or spikes; calyx bell-shaped or tubular, bilabiate, the upper lip entire (less often 3-lobed), the lower lip 2-lobed; corolla tubular, bilabiate, the upper lip entire, the lower lip 3-lobed; stamens 2, erect, included or exserted. Fruit of 4, 1-seeded, oblongovoid nutlets.
