Description:
Live plants all vegetative. In clumps, the dead culms 1-1.2 cm in diameter, about 3.5 m tall, erect to leaning. Internodes 16-22 cm long, more or less terete, smooth, glaucous when young. Nodes swollen, nodal region about 1 cm wide, supranodal ridge prominent; nodal line more or less horizontal, dipping slightly below the bud complement. Central bud circular, subtended by 1 row of subsidiary buds. Branching extravaginal, but culm leaves deciduous as the branches develop. Culm leaves with the blades long and narrow, erect and becoming reflexed, caducous, base narrower than the sheath apex; lower culm leaves with much smaller blades. Branches with the foliage leaf sheaths deciduous, lower part naked. Central branch developed on the upper half of the culms, 0.5-1 m long; subsidiary branches 16-23 cm long, occasionally rebranching. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
