Melastomataceae
Discussion:

Despite Cogniaux' description of a glabrous ovary for both this species and the dubiously distinct G. floribunda Triana, material from Amazonian Colombia (Schultes & Cabrera 12936, 17576) according with the type photograph (Macbride 36204), as well as Peruvian material (King 3139) determined by Gleason as G. floribunda, has furfuraceous ovary apices. Certainly conspecific with the Colombian collections is Bernardi 1514 (NY), from Cano Auacapa. Rio Apacara, Bolivar, Venezuela
