Description:
Description Author and Date: Description by Mayara K. Caddah, 2013
Type: Type: Brazil. Rio de Janeiro: Petrópolis, "Morro du Cubiçado", 1887. Glaziou n. C (holotype: BR).
Description: Trees up to 6 m tall; young branches slightly flattened, with no or just a small interpetiolar ridges, densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes. Leaves discolorous; petioles 1-2 cm, slightly flattened; blades 10-22 x 3-5 cm, lanceolate, apex acuminate, base acute to decurrent, margin entire to slightly repand in the superior third, membranaceous, longitudinal nerves 3, supra-basal, 2-5(10) mm above the base, abaxial surface densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes of about 0.2 mm diam., and moderately covered by short dendritic trichomes. Panicles 4-10 x 2.5-10 cm, glomerulate, terminal, densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes with long arms, ca. 0.1-0.2 mm diam.; bracts up to 6 mm long, subulate, caducous; bracteoles up to 1.5 mm long, subulate, usually persistent. Flowers 5-merous. Hypanthium 1.2-1.5 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous, outer densely covered by sessile-stellate trichomes with long arms, ca. 0.2 mm diam.; torus sparse to moderately covered by simple, small trichomes. Calyx, lobate, persistent in fruit, inner surface of the lobes glabrous, tube and outer surface covered by trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 0.3 mm long, inner lobes 0.3 mm long, triangular, outer teeth 0.2 mm long, subulate. Petals 1.8-2 x 0.5-0.6 mm. Stamens white, isomorphic to slightly dimorphic; filaments 1.6-2 mm long, glabrous; connectives 0.2-0.3 mm prolonged below the thecae, unappendaged; anthers 0.9 mm long, oblong, with a single, terminal, small to moderate pore, ca. 0.2 mm. Ovary 0.8 mm long, half adherent to the hypanthium, 3-locular, apex densely covered by stellate trichomes; style 5 mm long, straight to slightly curved, punctiform, glabrous. Mature fruits not seen.
Habitat and Distribution: Miconia baumgratziana occurs in the wet moutains of the Atlantic Forest s.s., from São Paulo to Espírito Santo states, and in the Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, in riparian forest, from 700-1600 m asl.
