Nomenclature remarks: Nomen nudum = Tococa subciliata
Taxonomy and Systematics: The specimen Spruce 491 is annotated as T. scabriuscula. However, this name is only mentioned as a Bentham manuscript in Triana's treatment of the Melastomataceae (Triana 1871), as a synonym of T. planifolia, which it is now considered a synonym of T. subciliata.
