Description:

Epiphytic shrub; stems several, ascending or drooping, 3-5 feet long, crookedly rebranched, terete, with rather hard, sappy, white, odorless wood covered with yellowish-gray thinly checked bark; twigs suberect, stongly 4-winged; leaves ascendingly curved from the base; tips strongly recurved, coriaceous, dull green above, much lighter beneath; peduncles from the leaf axils or lateral, descendingly curved, 6-10 inches long, fleshy; bright red inflorescence pendulous, equalling the peduncle and similar in color except the yellowish-white filaments and purplish-blue anthers with yellowish basal horns; flowers odorless; globose fruits purple or bluish; very handsome in bud, flower and fruit. Habitat:

Upon medium sized tree trunks several feet from the ground in dense forests of subaquatic flats.
