Brazil. Bahia. Morro do Chapeu: Rio do Ferro Doido, 19.5 km SE of Morro do Chapeu on the BA 052 highway to Mundo Novo. Alt. 900 m. (2953 ft.)

Description:

Subshrub to 1.5 m; leaves stongly and finely bullate, mid-green above, pale beneath; calyx reddish-tinged; petals bright vermilion with small yellow basal zone; stamens golden-yellow. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
Habitat:

With water-worn horizontally bedded sandstone at soil surface, with damp sand, sedge marsh, exposed rock and waterfall. Vegetation open scrub to closed low woodland in drier areas.
