Colombia. Antioquia. East side of river, Vic. Planta Providencia, 28 km SW of Zaragoza, valley of Río Anorí in the areas surrounding the confluence of Quebrada La Tirana and Río Anorí, approx. 3 km upriver from Planta Providencia. Alt. 400 - 700 m. (1312 - 2297 ft.)

Description:

shrub, 3 m. Hairs on inflorescence are red; petioles are swollen at leaf base and are the home of many small red ants. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
Habitat:

Primary/old secondary forest on NW slopes in hills, tropical wet/very wet forest transition zone; rainfall approx. 4400 mm/year.
