Dominican Republic. La Vega. Cordillera Central, SW edge of Constanza, ca. 3 km on road to hydroelectric plant on Rio Grande ("que danza") de Constanza; area historically referred to as Salto de Constanza. Alt. 1130 - 1150 m. (3707 - 3773 ft.)

Description:

Shrub to 2 m tall; berries dark purple; petals white, anthers yellow. Young fruits with red hypanthium. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
Habitat:

Pine forest above, most forest along steep rocky ravines, fairly dense secondary thicket downstream from plant. With Tetrazygia longicaulis, Miconia stenobotrys, Clidemia angustilamina, Corchorus hirsutus, Cissampelos pareira, Ilex, Trema lamarckiana, Pellaea, Cheilanthes, Tabebuia berteroi, Chrysophyllum, Lantana camara, Piper aduncum, Comocladia, Croton, Sida, Phyllanthus, Ficus, Clusia, Cupania, Rivina, Pilea, Kalanchoe spp., and several Myrtaceae shrubs. Locally common.
