Brazil. Bahia. Serra do Rio de Contas; between 2.5 and 5 km S of the Vila do Rio de Contas on side road to W of the road to Livramento, leading to the Rio Brumado. Alt. 980 m. (3215 ft.)

Description:

Erect bushy shrub to 2.5 m. with slender tortuous wiry branches. Leaves weakly imbricated crowded at the pendulous tips of the branches. Leaves mid-green slightly paler beneath, viscid and with sickly sweet odour. Ovary red-tinged. Petals fallen, but remains apparently white yellow. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
Habitat:

Rocky riverside with rapids, riverine vegetation, cerrado with sandstone outcrops and some grasslands areas subject to flooding but dry at time of collection. This plant growing in cerrado/grassland junction.
