Type: PANAMA. Colón: On Santa Rita Ridge trail, beyond end of Stana Rita Ridge Road (Panamanian Hwy R20D), 17-35 km from Boyd-Roosevel Hwy, 400-800 m alt, 23 May 1975 (fl), S. Mori & M. Crosby 6352 (HOLOTYPE: NY; ISOTYPE: MO).
Description: Canopy trees, 30 m x 92 cm. Bark unknown. Leaves: petioles 13-17 mm, black; blades 12-18 x 4-9 cm, elliptic, reddish-brown punctations associated with veins abaxially (seen only with magnification), chartaceous, the adaxial surface dull in dried collections, the base acute to rounded, the margins entire; secondary veins in 10-12 pairs, plane adaxially, raised abaxially, the tertiary veins reticulate. Inflorescences terminal (suprafoliar), once-branched, the axes scarcely puberulous, 8-18 cm long; pedicel/hypanthium 7 mm long, poorly defined above articulation, truncate at articulation, sulcate, puberulous (seen only under magnification), the trichomes white, appressed. Flowers 2-2.5 cm diam.; calyx with 6-lobes, the lobes 6 x 4 mm, carinate abaxially, the base gibbous, the bases imbricate for much of length, petals 15-18 x 9-14 mm, white; stamens ca. 80, the androecial hood with a double coil (see image below), yellow. Fruits not seen. Seeds not seen.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality by two collections (Correa & Dressler 679; Mori & Crosby 6352).
