Description:

Distribution and Ecology - SURINAME. Lucie Rivier, Irwin, Prance, Soderstrom & Holmgren 55400; Zuid Rivier, 55911.

Discussion:

This species has been documented from British Guiana, French Guiana, and northern Suriname (Lanjouw & Lindeman 1106). In the area of the present collections, as in other parts of Guiana, I. meissneriana frequents shallow river borders, especially in areas of land-building. However, it has not been observed to occur in the same localities with I. disticha, a species of the same habitat. Neither species is common in British Guiana; the latter, however, is abundant along the three rivers travelled in Amapa.
