Pires et al. 51478 varies from the others listed in bearing more symmetrical, elliptic leaves with more prominent lateral nenes more gradually ascending, less arcuate, and frequently more conspicuous reticulation. The present treatment is concerned with the “caudata” complex only in regard to the current collections cited. It is not appropriate to attempt here a clarification of the several entities involved, if indeed there is more than a single variable species represented. [See brief discussion Allen, Mem. N. Y. Bot. Gard. 10(5) : 103. 1964.]
