Menispermaceae
Menispermaceae
Description:
Species Description - Probably of sect. Anomospermum and near A. reticulatum, which it resembles in pubescence, coloring, and texture of foliage, but differing in the elongate, pinnately veined blades. Petiole either setulose or glabrate, 2-9 cm long, the thickened apex terete; blades stiffly chartaceous, dull or scarcely lustrous, oblong-oblanceolate, cuneate to rounded at base, short-acuminate at apex, 13-30 cm long, 2.5-10 cm wide (from nearly 3 up to 5 times longer than vvdde), the costa depressed-canaliculate above, carinate beneath, giving rise along its whole length to ± 7-11 pairs of major incurved-ascending secondaries, the first (arising from petiole) no longer than the next succeeding, these all slender but prominulous on both sides, more sharply so beneath; reticulation of both faces sharp, open, the larger areoles circumscribed by raised veinlets ± 0.5-0.7 mm diam.

Discussion:
This entity was first noticed in 1938 (Brittonia 3: 41). Its range is now extended into Peru, but flowers and fruits are still lacking. The pinnate venation of the leaf-blades suggests Telitoxicum, but the beautiful open reticulation, coloration, and aspect of the foliage point to an Anomospermum allied to the A. reticulatum complex.
