Description:
Species Description - Caespitose perennials or often monocarpic; sterile culms leafy, 1-2(4) m tall, the fertile clums leafless or rarely leafy, 2-4 m long, weak. Leaves: blade 20-30 X 4-5 cm and slightly subcordate basally. Inflorescences 10-25 cm long. Pistillate spikelets 8-11 mm long, the glumes acute to subaristate but awnless; florets 6-8 mm long, ovoid, smooth, glabrous except for hairy margins. Staminate spikelets 5-8 mm long.
Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Jan), fr (Jan, Apr); common, in forest understory at all elevations. Soufflette.
