Description:

Species Description - Hemiepiphytic vines. Stems 2-6 cm X 3-5 mm, dark green to olive-green or grayish, turning light brown, weakly flattened on one side, drying light yellow-brown to dark brown. Leaves: petioles 6.5-10.5 cm long, sheathing from 2/3 its length to nearly throughout (but sheath ending 6-15 mm below blade) and sometimes to base of geniculum, the sheath narrow, erect and curled inward, typically <5 mm high, narrowly rounded at apex, the free portion of petiole and geniculum sharply sulcate, those subtending inflorescence to 1 cm wide when flattened; blade moderately inequilateral, oblongelliptic to narrowly obovate, 9-21 X 3-7.5 cm, slightly inequilateral and acute at base, weakly subvelvety matte to weakly glossy above, matte below; primary lateral veins 3 -5(7) per side, scarcely more visible than minor veins. Inflorescences solitary, the peduncle slender, mostly exposed, 2.5-3 cm long; spathe 6-8 X 1-2 cm, not at all constricted above tube, solid green to yellowish, slightly paler adaxially, drying reddish brown; spadix 5-7.5 cm long, the pistillate portion 2-3.7 cm X 8-10 mm, the staminate portion protruded weakly forward, slender with a small portion remaining exposed on drying. Fl (Jun, Aug, Sep, with buds in Oct), moderately mature fr (Jul-Nov) in other parts of French Guiana; relatively common around Eaux Claires but only on lower trunks of trees and always sterile and probably juvenile. It may be found higher in the canopy of mature forest.
