Species Description - Herbs to <1 m tall. Stems short, the internodes short, to ca. 3.5 cm diam. Sap sweetly anise-scented. Leaves: petiole obtusely sulcate, sparsely to densely pubescent, reddish, about as long as blades; blade ovate-cordate, 27-44 X 14-22 cm; primary lateral veins 18 or 19 pairs, the midrib and primary lateral veins pubescent on lower surface. Inflorescences 1 or 2 per axil, the peduncle 4-18 cm long, the peduncle and spathe reddish abaxially; spathe whitish adaxially, 8-11 cm long; spadix 7-10 cm long, male portion white, female portion cream.
