Description:

Description - Plant stemless, reproducing by short suberect stolons. Leaves about 20 in a rosette, the outer greatly reduced, the others to 52 cm long, erect, about equaling the inflorescence, coriaceous, sparsely and minutely lepidote beneath; sheaths broadly elliptic, ca 15 cm long, purple; blades narrowly triangular, pungent, to 7 cm long, sublaxly serrate with spreading spines 1.5 mm long, not at all channeled. Scape erect, glabrous, 4 mm in diameter at apex; scape-bracts erect or the highest suberect, about twice as long as the internodes, ovate, acuminate, entire, subcoriaceous, nerved, white, punctulate-lepidote. Inflorescence simple, strobiliform, 8 cm long, 5 cm in diameter, many-flowered. Floral bracts spreading but their bases densely imbricate, ovate, broadly acute, resembling the scape-bracts, much exceeding the flowers, entire; flowers sessile. Sepals free, oblong, obtuse and unarmed, slightly asymmetric, 11 mm long, the posterior alate with the ovary; petals white; ovary subglobose; ovules long-caudate.
