Description:

Species Description - Shrub or small tree to 12 m tall, glabrous; bark light to dark brown, rough, peeling off in large rectangular plates; twigs dark brown with numerous grayish lenticels. Leaf blades 6-14 x 1.8-5.5 cm, elliptic or rarely oblanceolate, membranous, glaucous underneath, the apex acuminate to acute, the base obtuse and revolute, the margins entire; petioles 4-5 mm long; stipules minute, lanceolate, persistent. Staminate flowers few to many in short axillary fascicles. Pistillate flowers usually paired or a few on short axillary branches; pedicel 1-1.3 cm long; styles connate at base, bifid at apex. Capsule depressed-globose semiwoody, 0.7-1 cm diam., usually 5-locular. Seeds oblong, 3-4 mm long, with metallic blue fleshy outer coat (sarcotesta).
