Description:

Genus Description - Canopy trees, unbuttressed. Bark deeply fissured or not fissured. Leaves glabrous, brochidodromous, the tertiary veins reticulate. Inflorescences terminal or in axils of upper leaves, simple racemes or paniculate arrangement of racemes with 2-3 orders of branching. Flowers diurnal, zygomorphic; sepals 6; petals 6; androecium with well-developed but flat hood, the appendages with anthers; ovary 2-locular, the ovules inserted at base of septum or on floor of locule. Fruits cylindric or campanulate. Seeds with basal aril; embryo without cotyledons.
