French Guiana. Nouragues Nature Reserve. Crique Nouragues, on line XVII on W side of creek. Coordinates taken at Camp Inselberg. Alt. 60 m. (197 ft.)

Description:

Tree, 35 m x 40 cm. Trunk cylindric to ground. Petals, filaments, and apical part of androecial hood white, the lower part of hood reddish-pink as is most of the inside of the appendage-free ligule, the anthers light yellow in about 3/4 of staminal ring on side closest to the opening of the flower, the stamens on the ligular side side of the ring are white, the androecial flanges and the petals close off entry from the side (see photos). Many fresh flowers on the ground at 11:00 a.m. and looking like they had fallen that morning suggesting nocturnal anthesis but this needs to be confirmed. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
Habitat:

In low area near creek but not on the bank of the creek.
