6 cm. soft greenish-brown rope covered with spines. Branchlets spiny, lvs. thinly leathery, the midrib spiny below; fls. in short inflor. opposite the leaves; calyx green, thickened; corolla purple; stamens yellow; fr. globose 2 cm. dia. still green, calyx accrescent in fruit, brown warty; ripe fr. yellowish green, not available. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
