Description:

Species Description - Glabrous tree to 6 m tall. Branchlets subterete, dark brown-red in dry specimens. Leaves ovate-elliptic or -oblong, apex acuminate for 1.5-2(-2.5) cm, tip bluntish, base inequilateral, very base contracted to the petiole, (sub)coriaceous though more or less flexible, dark olive-brown and markedly shiny mainly above, smooth, i.e. practically neither wrinkled nor tuberculate, laticifers dark colored, plane, edge slightly revolute, 8-16(-20) x 4-7(-9) cm, midrib plane or slightly impressed above, strongly raised beneath, lateral nerves (6-)7-10 pairs with a few shorter or less obvious ones between, rather irregularly curved-ascending, looping before the margin, reticulation of veins and veinlets dense, faintly raised above, more conspicuously so beneath; petiole rugulose, 8-12(-17) x 1.5-2 mm. Flowers numerous per axillary fascicle; pedicels stoutish, 4-7 mm long. Calyx lobes ovate-acuminate, 1.5-2 mm long. Petals 5(-6), ovate-elliptic, green, hairy inside, (3-)4 mm long. Stamens 10. Drupe ellipsoid, smooth, probably pale, 10-12 x ca. 7 mm. Fruit-calyx fleshy-membranaceous, red, including the drupe, 3-4(-6) cm diam. when expanded, lobes ovate, obtuse, to 3 x 2 cm; peduncle robust, ca. 1 cm long.

Discussion:

Close to H. duckei and not re-collected since 1940.
