Definition:

The base of the sepals do not overlap.

Notes:

In some species of New World Lecythidaceae the sepals are imbricate, especially at the base, and in other species they are not. Calyx-lobes and sepals are both used for the free ends of the calyx. In this family, it is assumed that the lower part of the calyx is fused to the ovary wall so calyx-lobe is the more correct term.
