Androphore
Definition:
A stalk elevated above the point of perianth attachment which supports the stamens.
A stalk elevated above the point of perianth attachment which supports the stamens.
Notes:
Androphore has been used as a synonym for the androecium of zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae. However, as Monteiro-Scanavacca (1975) pointed out the androecium of Lecythidaceae is entirely derived from staminal tissue; thus, androphore is not an appropriate term for the androecium of Lecythidaceae. We call the male part of the flower of neotropical Lecythidaceae the androecium. There are two types of androecia in neotropical Lecythidaceae: actinomorphic and zygmorphic.
