Description: Seedling of Peltogyne purpurea with old cotyledons (white structures), remaining parts of testa present, and one of the two valves of the fruit still attached. The first true leaves (eophylls) have emerged (based on Reinaldo Aguilar 9545 from the Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas, Costa Rica).

Phanerocotylar cotyledons

Definition:

A type of seed germination in which the cotyledons emerge from the seed coat. Compare with cryptocotylar.
