Description: Fruit of papaya (Carica papaya) based on a fruit purchased in Westchester County, New York. A. Entire fruit. B. Medial longitudinal section. C. Cross section. The cross section came from the same fruit and has been enlarged to show the placentation. D. Seeds with arils. The seeds have a slimy coating and there seems to be a white funicle inside and running the length of the aril.

A type of placentation found in compound, unilocular ovaries in which the ovules arise from placentae inserted on the wall of the locule near the sutures.
