Description: Schizocarps of Acer platanoides based on an unvouchered plant from the Bronx, New York. These fruits develop from a biloculate flower and, at maturity split into two mericarps which are dispersed by the wind. The fruits of species of maples are sometimes called double samaras but not true samaras because two samara-like parts develop from the same fruit.
