Description:

Tree 30 ft high. Stem 1 foot thick at least, givin rise to main ascending branches from below the middle; branchlets spreading horizontally, lax numerosous; wood hard, heavy, reddish toward the middle, odorless and tasteless; bark dark brown, coarsely shredded longitudinally, smooth and graish on the branchlets; twigs green; leaves horizontally recurved, coriaceous, shining deep green above, much paler green beneath, the young terminal leaves reddish and pendulous, peduncle light green, horizontal mainly, more or less angularl pedicel similarly green; recurved calyx darker green, with small brownish white segments; corolla 1/3 inch long, whitish, constricted toward the apex with a faint sweet honey odor. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
