Species Description - Shrub to 1 m with densely villous twigs; lvs lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 2–5 cm, revolute, dark green above and sparsely villous when young, densely villous- tomentulose beneath; pedicels puberulent, 1–2 cm; fls white, 1 cm wide; stamens 5–7; fr slenderly ovoid, 5–7 mm, the style persistent; 2n=26. Bogs and wet shores, or sometimes on rocky alpine slopes; Greenl. to Alas., s. to Mass., n. N.J., Pa., Mich., Wis., and Minn. June, July.
